YouTube is 15 years old. Often touted as the media platform that democratised user-generated contented, YouTube paid out $30 billion to creators in the last 3 years alone. For many, uploading content to social media sites is a digital extension of everyday life, but for some, these platforms provide an income stream they never dreamed was possible. YouTube alone has minted many millionaire influencers, but with a ready-made audience and new-found wealth how will social media influencers change the landscape for start-ups and digital businesses over the coming years.
